Yellow Fever for Nottingham at Plymouth

Three yellow cards in the second half saw Nottingham lose their opening British and Irish Cup match 28-9 at Plymouth Albion.

A pulsating, end to end match saw Plymouth leading 7-6 at half time.  The second half began in much the same vein, but began to turn as Ed Styles was sent to the bin.  Gareth Evans of Plymouth followed shortly afterwards making it 14 a side and Nottingham worked their way back into the game through a second Matt Jarvis penalty.

A yellow card for Tom Price which was quickly followed by another for Harry Williams saw Plymouth score two further tries while Cusack kept slotting the points.

The scoreline flattered Plymouth, but there is no doubt that they deserved the win for the greater accuracy and composure they showed with the ball in hand.

For Nottingham, 10 yellow cards in five matches is something that they will want to address, particularly after putting in such an encouraging performance for the majority of the match.

The Green and Whites have a week to rest up before Irish giants Munster visit Meadow Lane for a spectacular Irish festival.

Yellow cards again cost Nottingham dearly as their British and Irish Cup campaign got off to a disappointing start at Plymouth Albion.

The 28-9 final score may have flattered the home side a little, but indiscipline from the Green and Whites handed Albion the initiative and they deserve every credit for making the most of it.

Just as they had done against Jersey a week earlier Nottingham found that having two players sin-binned reduces their game to one of damage limitation.

They made a good enough start, centre Joe Munro almost getting through for an early try, but a fine tackle from winger Jack Arnott just kept him out.

Overall though it was a poor first half and Albion went in at the break leading 7-6, thanks to a try from Rhys Oakley, converted by Chris Elder.

Nottingham had earlier opened the scoring with a Rory Lynn penalty, while another from Matt Jarvis cut the home lead to a single point.

Albion got a second try five minutes into the second half when Rob Langley did well to support a break from centre Pale Nonu.

Nottingham winger Ed styles was the first player to be sin-binned and while he was out of the action Albion extended their lead with a couple of penalties from Declan Cusack.

A second penalty from Jarvis kept Nottingham in it, before Albion were themselves shorthanded following a yellow card for Gareth Evans.

Any hopes the Green and Whites may have had of a comeback were halted though as Tom Price and Harry Williams were sent to the sin-bin.

The resulting disruption left them hanging on and the home side took full advantage, Cusack quickly adding another penalty and then back row man Eoghan Grace crossing for his side's third try of the night.

Cusack's conversion completed the scoring.
