Nottingham snap up fly-half Jarvis and lock Keogh

NOTTINGHAM has completed a double coup by bringing talented fly-half Matthew Jarvis and heavy-duty lock Neilus Keogh to the Meadow Lane club next season.

Jarvis, 22, a former junior Welsh international, joins from RaboDirect Pro12 outfit Connacht having played for the Irish club in the Heineken Cup this season.

Keogh, 26, who featured for Ireland at schoolboy, university and under-19 and 20 levels, joins from Italian outfit Lazio.

Green and Whites head coach Martin Haag said the pair will be valuable additions.

"We are delighted to bring these guys in. Both are very exciting prospects who want to be part of Nottingham Rugby's future and I'm looking forward to working with them," Haag said.

"Matt is an excellent prospect who has Heineken Cup and Pro12 experience. Similar to Jimmy Arlidge, Matt has good control of the game and is a sharp goal kicker. He has the ability to take the line on, and importantly he wants to get on board with us as we continue our journey. He is a player that has the character and skills needed in a key position.

"Neilus is a big, mobile man who is good in lineouts and has great handling skills. He is the type of player that will fit in well to the squad both on and off the field."

Commenting on his move to Meadow Lane, Keogh said: "Nottingham are enjoying great success this season and the ambition they have is exciting.

"In less than a year Martin Haag has had a big influence and he is someone that I'm really looking forward to working under. As a player he achieved so much and as a second row, specifically, I firmly believe that there is a lot to learn from him and that I can take my game to a new level with the Green and Whites."

Jarvis, who rose through Ospreys' ranks before moving to Ireland, said: "I'm really looking forward to moving to the East Midlands and joining a club with great ambition.

"Already I'm excited about starting work with head coach Martin Haag and backs coach Ben Johnston in pre-season.  It is a fantastic and very professional set up at Meadow Lane and I want to be part of the clubs success and help them move forward.

"I'm just looking forward to playing week in and week out and getting more game time with a club that is determined to go places.

"I've had a great time with Connacht and enjoyed some amazing opportunities this season in the Heineken Cup which is the pinnacle of club rugby. It is experiences like starting against English champions Harlequins at The Stoop which I will use to help me as a player as I try to step up with Nottingham next season."
