NOTTINGHAM Rugby captain Brent Wilson says he was
stunned to collect the top two honours at the club's annual awards
night on Saturday.
Wilson, who took over captaincy of the Green and Whites this
season, was named the Neil Hannah Player of the Year for 2012/13
and was voted Players' Player of the Year for a second time in as
He beat lock Nic Rouse, centre Tim Streather and winger Rhys
Crane for the top gong. Both Rouse and Streather also featured in
the top three of the players' vote.
In his second season with the Meadow Lane club, Wilson has
epitomised the club's rise-and-rise as an RFU Championship force
with his no-nonsense approach to the game and commitment to
With 13 tries in all competitions, the flanker also finished the
regular season as the play-off-bound club's leading try scorer.
Still, Wilson was humbled to receive so much praise at the Green
and Whites Ball at the Nottingham Crowne Plaza.
The captain said: "I feel shocked to get these awards.
"This season has been one in which a lot of players have
performed really well, it has been a huge privilege being
captain of this side.
"There are some awesome players stepping up for us."

Martin Haag is Joe Munro, 22, who was named Nottingham's Young
Player of the Year.
The centre has been a key figure in his second season with the
East Midlands outfit, starting 21 regular season league
In other awards, winger Alex Lewington's try against Plymouth at
Meadow Lane was judged best of the season. Two of Lewington's tries
were nominated in a strong field, which included stunning team
tries finished by Rouse, Andrew Savage and Rhys Crane.
Meanwhile, Rupert Cooper took out the Tony Butcher Community
Award and Scunthorpe's Jake Barron was named Nottingham Rugby's
Community Player of the Year.
