Nottingham head north for return to cup action

Nottingham Rugby heads north of the border in the first of a double header against Stirling County in the British and Irish Cup on Saturday (7th December).

The Green and Whites come into the match on the back of a high scoring draw against Cornish Pirates last weekend. Nottingham led 24-13 midway through the second half and looked set to record the club's third home win on the trot. But two late Pirates tries, meant they had to chase the game to claim a 27-27 draw with Matthew Jarvis's last minute penalty kick at the death.

The coaching team whilst disappointed not to claim maximum points, are pretty pleased with recent performances, and are looking forward to the trip to Stirling County this weekend.

Nottingham Attack Coach Ben Johnston, who takes the reins for this match, said:

"We've seen a marked improvement in our last 4 or 5 performances and whilst we're not quite getting all the results we are looking for, we are increasing our standard of play. We're confident that if we keep putting in the hard work we'll put more pressure on the teams above us in the table."

"It's our first game against Stirling County and to be honest we don't know an awful lot about them. Like us, they're at the wrong end of the league table and I am sure will be looking forward to generating some momentum in the cup. I expect it'll be a tough, physical battle and like all Scottish teams they'll be very proud to be playing at home in front of their own fans."

Nottingham have selected a strong side for the journey and will be looking to continue on the improved performances in recent matches. The match provides an opportunity for a couple of new faces with Jacob Knight coming in at full back and Keifer Laxton and Jake Barron on the flanks. Campese Ma'afu returns from international duty with Fiji to take over the captaincy.
