Nottingham Dig Deep to Pip Plymouth

Matt Jarvis kicked Nottingham to a much-needed win, slotting over all their points in a 15-10 victory over Plymouth Albion at Meadow Lane.

Playing in pink it was far from pretty, and there were plenty of anxious moments with both sides making mistakes, but Nottingham showed plenty of commitment to grind out an important result.

Full back Jarvis hit five penalties, his first coming in only the fourth minute, and from a couple of metres inside his own half.

Albion almost hit back from the restart though as they attacked down their left. They forced a penalty, which they kicked to touch, and threatened as they moved the ball across field from the resulting lineout before knocking on.

Nottingham then suffered an early injury blow as hooker Jon Vickers had to leave the action, Alun Walker replacing him.

Jarvis was off target with his second penalty attempt, and when the visitors countered they forced a penalty for Declan Cusack to level midway through the first half.

Within five minutes they were ahead after Nottingham had lost their own lineout ball inside their 22, Albion moving the ball quickly to create a gap for centre Heath Stevens to cross, Cusack making it 3-10 with the conversion.

Jarvis landed his second penalty on the half hour to make it 6-10 before Albion missed two chances to extend their lead.

A break through the middle took them deep into the home 22, but Alex Shaw managed to intercept and tidy up.

Minutes later, following a dangerous attack from Nottingham, the visitors raced out of defence with winger Thomas Brown making a lot of ground. It took an excellent try-saving tackle form Rory Lynn to stop him.

A third penalty form Jarvis, the last kick of the first half, made it 9-10 at the break.

Nottingham started the second half with a lot more urgency, a pacey attack taking them close to the line before they were penalised for holding on.

Ten minutes into the half another Jarvis penalty put them back in front.

It was nervous, edgy stuff for the remainder of the game, but Nottingham showed character to preserve that lead.

A fifth penalty form Jarvis ten minutes from time completed the scoring.
