Nottingham takes on the Exiles and some old friends

Nottingham Rugby will get their pre-season campaign underway on Friday evening (16th August, 19:45 kick-off) when Aviva Premiership giants London Irish visit Meadow Lane.

The Green and Whites have been putting in the hard work on the training ground as they prepare for their opening Greene King IPA Championship match against Leeds Carnegie on 14th September.

London Irish will be bringing a whole contingent of former Nottingham faces with them following the recruitment of five players in the off-season, while former Director of Rugby Glenn Delaney acts as the club's Forwards Coach.

Stalwarts Matt Parr and Nic Rouse were recruited following their impressive performances for Nottingham as they finished second in the Championship last season.  Former dual registered players Alex Lewington, Jimmy Stevens and Jonny Harris were also added to their squad.

Nottingham Head Coach, Martin Haag said, "London Irish will be a good test and it will be nice to see some old faces.  With the new signings we've made there are going to be new combinations all over the park and this is our chance to see how well they work in a live match scenario.

"The players have been working extremely hard in pre-season to ensure they're in the best shape they can be but there is only so much you can replicate in training.  This match will be very useful for the coaches and the players as we take our first step on the road to being ready for Leeds."

The match will also be the first chance for the Green and White faithful to see the new signings that have been added to the Nottingham squad ahead of the new season.

Campese Ma'afu, the Fijian international Prop comes straight into the front row alongside Shaun Malton and Harry Williams.

Neilus Keogh slots in at Lock alongside Dan Montagu, while Tom Calladine, captain Brent Wilson and Joe Burton make up the back row.

Matthew Jarvis, a recent signing from Connacht, gets his first chance at Fly Half with Sean Romans at Scrum Half.  Joe Munro looks to pick up where he left off last season at Inside Centre with George Catchpole outside him.

Ryan Hough, David Jackson and Edward Styles make up the back three.

Tickets are still available for the match and can be purchased by calling the Nottingham Rugby office on 0115 9070070.  They will also be available on the gate.  Fans will also have their first chance to purchase Nottingham's brand new BLK kit from the club shop.
