NOTTINGHAM supporters who made the trip up to
Doncaster witnessed a little piece of history as local hero David
Jackson ran in his 100th try for the
club.

His second half effort (pictured), from
a close range lineout, was the highlight of an often dour game, and
gave the Green and Whites a 16-nil lead.
And it actually proved to be the winning score as the home side
mounted a late fightback to force a couple of tries.
Overall it was again the quality of Nottingham's defence which
earned them the points as they overcame that late surge to win
14-16.
The win took them above Knights in the Pool 8 table, with this
weekend's game against Llandovery at Meadow Lane the decider.
Having had most of the early play Nottingham deservedly took
the lead with a couple of James Arlidge penalties.
But it was scrappy stuff much of the time before Nottingham
finally got the opening try of the day.
Alex Lewington did well to hack the ball forward into the
in-goal area from a poor pass, and with both sides struggling to
get a hand on it Jack Cobden pounced to get his second in as many
games to give his side an 11 point advantage at the break.
After Jacko's historic try Nottingham seemed to lose
concentration and were perhaps guilty of letting Doncaster back
into it.
A late try from replacement Chris Hallam, converted by Jamie
Lennard, put them back in contention, and when Tom Davies crashed
over, Lennard's conversion meant just two points separated the
sides.
But Nottingham held out for the win, although Doncaster will
rue turning down an earlier kickable penalty in favour of kicking
for an unproductive close range lineout.
